There is no railroad quite like this. At the turn of the century, building a rail link
from the boom town of Skagway to the gold fields, through vertical granite cliffs and deep
chasms seemed an impossible task. Despite the odds, a determined entrepreneur completed this monumental taskwhich
as now been declared an international historic civil engineering landmark. Almost 100
years later, vintage narrow-gauge parlor cars still retrace the original route to the
summit of White Pass. Leaving Skagway behind, the magnificent Alaskan wilderness unfolds ahead as you climb
nearly 3,000 feet in 21 miles past Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point and Dead Horse
gulch. You'll also view the original Klondike Trail of '98 worn into the rocks, a
permanent tribute to the thousands who passed this way in search of fortune. After reaching the White Pass Summit, the international boundary between the U.s. and
Canada, the train returns to Skagway and Crystal Symphony. Aficionados of rail travel and
those with an appreciation for matchless scenery won't want to miss this thrilling event! Approximately 3 hours. |
