One of the finest ways to peacefully access the islands and marine life of the Tongass National Forest is aboard a stable double kayak.

Expert guides are on hand as you gain confidence. You'll begin by paddling with your partner in the protected harbor before leaving busy Ketchikan behind and crossing the Tongass narrows to nearby Pennock Island. Enjoy the lush majesty of the rain forest and keep an eye out for eagles and ravens soaring overhead. Look closely also for multi-hued sea stars and urchins along the tide line.

From Pennock Island, you'll cross into the shadow of Deer mountain to explore historic Ketchikan and learn more about its prosperous fishing industry. Then, tidal conditions permitting, tuck into Thomas Basin boat harbor for a unique view of infamous Creek Street, the former red light district.

This great Ketchikan experience is ideal for anyone with moderate strength and endurance.

Approximately 2-1/2 to 3 hours.
