On this unique kayaking adventure you'll relive a bygone era when Aleut Indians traveled Alaska's coastal waterways in search of fur pelts.

A bus awaits for the scenic drive to the Fritz Cove kayak base. A helpful, experienced guide will outfit you with a life jacket and, if necessary, rainwear. There will be instruction on easy, basic paddling techniques before you climb aboard your stable, but nimble, two-person kayak.

In groups of up to six kayaks, you'll silently approach the local wildlife and venture to places such as the Mendenhall Wetlands, which afford a unique perspective of the Mendenhall Glacier.

Your guide will describe the area's history and help you to identify the local flora and fauna. Keep watch for porpoises, seals, sea lions, eagles, herons and even whales. Before returning to Crystal Symphony, you'll enjoy a beverage and snack.

Approximately 3-1/2 hours (paddling time is 1-1/2 hours).
