Relive Juneau's Klondike history and pan for gold beneath the ruins of a gold mine. Combine that experience with an Alaskan salmon meal barbecued in the great outdoors and you have a day of certain magic.

You'll journey to Last Chance Basin, accompanied by a prospector/guide, along the route taken by Joe Juneau and Richard Harris in their search for gold more than 100 years ago. There is "guaranteed gold" during this hands-on experience in the waters of Gold Creek. All the gold you find is yours to keep and you'll even receive a gold claim deed!

Later, your prospector will recapture the history of Juneau's gold discovery as you view the remnants of the Alaska-Juneau Mine.

Next, the succulent aroma of fresh salmon barbecuing over alder greets you after your 15-minute bus ride on to Salmon Creek. A simple, yet tasty buffet awaits, including salmon, ribs, rice pilaf, fresh salads, corn bread and baked beans -- as much as you can eat! A glass of beer, wine, fresh lemonade or coffee and tea are also available.

Your picnic table is nestled in lush rain forest adjacent to a creek. Overhead, a translucent canopy protects you from sun or rain.

After the meal, roast marshmallows over a crackling campfire or enjoy the musical entertainment. A short stroll away is the Salmon Creek waterfall, where salmon spawn in season, while nearby ther is a facility for rehabilitating eagles. A bus returns to Juneau every 30 minutes, so stay and enjoy yourself as long as you like (but don't forget we sail on time)!

Approximately 3 hours.
