Christchurch is justifiably proud of its beautiful parks, gardens and architecture.  Here's a special invitation to explore this rich heritage, accompanied by local historian, Margaret Perry.

You'll proceed directly to the Old Provincial Chambers for a guided exploration of this magnificent Gothic-styled structure, before continuing along Rolleston Avenue, past some of New Zealand's finest neo-Gothic buildings.  Admire Christ's College, the Canterbury Museum and the Arts Center before proceeding down Worchester Boulevard to the Christchurch and Canterbury Visitor's Center.

A small river boat, known as a punt, awaits nearby.  a capable oarsman will paddle you peacefully along the tranquil Avon River before you take an altogether different mode of transportation.  A beautifully-restored Christchurch tram awaits to take you on a modern Town Hall, before passing the Spanish Mission and art deco-style architecture along New Regent Street, en route to Cathedral Square.

A relaxing sojourn at a charming private residence will provide a fitting finale to this delightful program.  Julia Everist, your gracious hostess, will serve refreshments before you enjoy a leisurely stroll through her home and garden.  During the late 19th Century, this house was owned by Kate Sheppard, who was largely responsible for New Zealand women being among the worlds first to receive voting rights.

There are spectacular views of Christchurch and Lyttelton Harbor from the Port Hills during your return drive to the ship.

Note:  As there will be approximately 20 minutes' walking, we recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes.  There will be four guests boat.  In the event of wet weather, resulting in cancellat9ion of the river boat ride, additional time will be spent at the Arts Centre.

Approximately 4 hours.
