Where are the Polar Bears?
On an Alaskan Cruise you'll never see a polar bear unless you trek into the northernmost portions of the state. Polar bears frequent coastlines and the southern edge of the polar ice, but they occur throughout the polar basin. In winter, sitings occur as far south as St. Lawrence Island and may reach St. Matthew Island and the Kuskokwim Delta. During summer, bears visit the edge of the pack ice in the Chukchi Sea and Arctic Ocean, mostly between 70 and 72 degrees north latitude.
