My Tho, which lies on the left bank of the northernmost branch of the Mekong, was founded in the 1680s by Chinese political refugees.  Today, this area is renowned for its coconut palms and prosperous fruit orchards.

Your two-hour journey to this provincial capital will traverse miles of flat rice fields along a busy highway filled with people, bicycles and traffic.  Immediately on arrival, you'll take a stroll through the ornate Vinh Trang Pagoda.

Soon after, you'll proceed across the Mekong river passing barges, dug out canoes, houseboats and ferries.  Your destination is Thoi Son Island where you'll view a traditional farmer's orchard and sample exotic fruits.

You'll then retrace your journey back to the ship after experiencing this taste of rural Vietnamese lifestyles.

Approximately 6 hours.
