Easter
Island, Chili Sitting in the Pacific Ocean, some 1250 miles from the nearest land, Easter Island is home to the "moai," the mysterious giant stone heads scattered around the island. Cut from the basalt of the Rano Raraku volcano, these monoliths vary from 6 feet to more than 60 feet in height. Local legend has it that the moai "walked" under the power of priest to their resting places, although no one knows how they were move nor who carved them.
