Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
     Far East Cruise Port

Once home to pirates and warlords, Borneo's north coast remains largely untouched by tourism.  Kota Kinabalu combines modern high-rises and gorgeous beaches, bustling markets and sleepy waterfront cafes.  The mountains inland are one of the last refuges of the wild orangutan, while rare sea turtles nest in the secluded Turtle Islands Park.

Description

The most important thing to do in Kota Kinabalu is to take a trip to Mt Kinabalu.   In addition to an 18-hole golf corse at the foot of it's peak, you'll wonder at the beauty of your surroundings.  In fact, the cities views of the sea are only beginning to become noticed by the locals.

History

Until 1963, Kota Kinabalu was called Jesselton.  To keep the Japanese from using it as a base, it  was destroyed during World War II.   Now as Kota Kinabalu, it has become a modern, yet simple Malaysian city.
